Photoshop Much?

I came across this article in the NY Times today and I had one of those ‘holy eff’ moments. At first I thought it was a joke, but then realized that the NY Times is not going to mess around

Of course we’re all screwed up about our self image, models have become cartoons. Now this is obviously not the first time that I have heard of models being photo-shopped, but this is the first time that I am completely disgusted with what the media (or in this case Ralph Lauren) thinks is a good image to portray to women considering purchasing their clothes. There are also some pretty interesting links to before and after shots of Jessica Alba and Kiera Knightley

This also goes back to that story of how if Barbie was a real woman she’d have to carry her organs in her briefcase because her waist is way too small…

If you ask me these girls need a sandwich right F*#%ING NOW!!

And the fact that they are considering warning labels on these ads is in my opinion not a very good idea. Those warning labels will not solve the problem, they might even allow companies to get away with more of this because we are accepting these labels as the “norm”. On the other hand, you are being sold the clothes, not the models so maybe we should just try to be smart enough to recognize when we’re being played…
